Robert Pompeo Teta

Sgt. 1st Class Robert Pompeo “Bob” Teta (USA Ret), 71, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Byrd
Regional Hospital in Leesville. He was born on October 14, 1937 in Troy, New York, to Anthony and Lucy (Lacivita) Teta. He married Mary Jolene Phillips of McCurtain, Okla., on October 30, 1965 in Ft. Smith, Ark.
He devoted his life to
the service of his country, spending 24 years in the United States Army, including two tours in Vietnam, before retiring in January, 1979. Bob then joined the federal civil service, working another 13 years before medically retiring in August, 1993.
His desire to help others led him to the Calcasieu Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where his time as a volunteer Cub Master and service on the leadership council earned him the Calcasieu Area Council Silver Beaver Award.
Bob was a sifetime member of the American Legion Retired Post 387, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3106, and the St. Michael’s Knights of Columbus Council 4156.
During his active involvement in these organizations,
Bob served in numerous leadership positions. He was also a member of the CARB Veterans Club of Troy, New York. Bob was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville.
Bob is survived by his wife of 43
years, Mary Phillips Teta, of Leesville; sons Robert Phillips Teta and his wife Tona of Garland, Texas and CPT (P) Richard Palmer Teta and his wife Leah of Ft. Campbell, Kent.; grandchildren Jesse Jones, Nicholas Teta, Amelia Teta and Jesse Jones;
step-grandchildren Jake, Tyler and Miranda Bradley; brothers Anthony “Chick” Teta and Phillip “Butch” Teta of Troy, New York and Nicholas “Nicky” Teta of Newton, Penn.; and sisters Nancy Ishkanian and Lucy Smyth, also of Troy. Bob was preceded in
death by his parents, brothers Rocco “Rocky” Teta and Johnny Teta and sisters Dorothy Stone and Mary King.
The Vigil for the Deceased will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary at Labby Memorial Funeral
Home in Leesville on Wednesday, July 1. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 2 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville. The Rite of Committal and interment with full military honors will occur at 2 p.m.
on Friday, July 3 in Miner’s Memorial Cemetery in McCurtain, Okla. The funeral services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,
Calcasieu Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, or the American Heart Association.
