TROY EARL WHITAKER

Retired SFC Troy Whitaker, 70, of Boyce, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 in his home.

Troy was born on June 15, 1939 in Alvord, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star Medal. He retired from the Army in 1977 in Leesville.
Funeral services will be held on
Friday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Cemetary in Leesville. Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 20 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
He is survived by his former wife Nina Whitaker of
Jasper, Texas; son COL David Whitaker and wife Karen of Carlisle, Penn.; daughter Teresa Martin and fiancé Thomas Pendino of Brookeland, Texas; his brother Ira Whitaker and wife Wanda of Fletcher, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Carla Whitaker of Bowie, Texas
and Wanda Wheelis of Alvord, Texas; and ten grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Whitaker.
