Alma Maud Mims

Alma Maud Williams Mims, 91, died peacefully in her sleep on Thanksgiving
Day, November 25, 2010 in Winterville, Ga. She had been a resident of Winterville since 2005 after relocating there from Lake Charles due to Hurricane Rita.
Alma was born on July 16, 1919 in Vernon Parish to Augustus Clem Williams and Mary
Augusta Graham. She graduated from Normal State College (NSU Natchitoches) with a B.A. degree in Home Economics Education. It was there she met her husband to be, John J. Mims. They were married on September 27, 1940. She became a dedicated
homemaker, mother and wife, lovingly supporting her husband in his career as an educator in Calcasieu Parish as teacher, coach and principal of LaGrange High School. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also held a special place
in her heart for the many animals she cared for over the years. She was a faithful member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years,
John J. Mims; her parents and brother James E. (Buddy) Williams. She is survived by her son, Charles Mims (Sandy) of Athens,Ga.; daughter, Donna Cespiva (Wayne) of Lake Charles, and sister, Margaret Wolgemuth of Monroe; six grandchildren, David Mims
of San Francisco, Calif., Shelly Martin (J.R.) of Rainbow City, Ala., Julie Hunter (Scott) of Cumming, Ga., Melissa Gaskin (Byron) of Lake Charles, Jennifer Humble (Sean) of Katy, Texas, John Guidroz of Lake Charles; eight great grandchildren, Grant
and Paige Martin, Tate, Knox and Rhett Hunter, Mia and Maggie Gaskin and Kyle Humble. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will always remember “Aunt Alma.”
The name Alma means nourishing and nurturing. She lived
these qualities all her life, caring for her family and loved ones with unconditional love. She will be greatly missed.

Details of a memorial service and burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville will be announced at a later date.
