Richard L. Burns Sr.

Richard L. Burns, Sr., 72, of Leesville, passed away on Saturday, March 12,
2011 in Leesville. Richard was the Public Works Director for the City of Leesville and also had worked as a civilian contractor for 20 years worldwide.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara Jones Burns of Leesville; sons, Richard
“Rusty” Loy Burns and wife Kathleen of Leesville, Cody R. Burns and wife Caitlin of Leesville and Woody Waters and wife Ashley of Leesville; daughter, Cindy Holsomback of New Llano; Brother, Rev. John C. Burns and wife Kitty of Leesville; sister,
Blanche and husband Rev. J.T. Wheat of Bastrop; grandchildren: Jobe Lynn Holsomback, Summer Carter and husband Shawn, Richard L. Burns III, Shelby Burns, Mason Burns, Hunter Waters, and Aubree Waters; great grandchildren, Lorishae Brown and Jayden
Holsomback; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lettie Brown Burns and his parents, Emerson “Tobe” Burns and Beva Yates Burns.
Richard was a member of the First United
Pentecostal Church of Leesville. He was a Mason of the 32nd Degree, York Rite, Blue Lodge and a Shriner. Richard was also one of the original members of the Oatmeal Ranger Golf Team. Richard served in the U.S Army from 1955-1958. He and his band
members played music in Vernon Parish and surrounding communities for many years and was instrumental in raising funds and organizing benefits for the Lions Club and Lions Children’s Camp as well as holding benefits for many families of Vernon Parish
in need.
Visitation was held at the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 4-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Tuesday March 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Christian and Rev. J.T
Wheat officiating. Burial will take place at Pinehill Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
