Dericke Blake Smith

Sgt. 1st Class Dericke Smith, 38, passed away Nov. 8, 2012 in Carlyss. He
was born in Alexandria and lived the majority of his life in Hicks. He served in the Louisiana National Guard for 19+ years as well as serving his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004-2005. Dericke was an avid hunter, fisherman and LSU
football fan; taking his dog Bud fishing and playing ball with his dog Scarlett were among his favorite activities. He also enjoyed diving, both water and sky, NASCAR, and spending time with family and friends most of all.
Services for Mr.
Smith will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 14 in the chapel of Griffin Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Ball, with Revs. Thomas L. Craft, Chad Craft and Dale Poe officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the
supervision of Griffin Forest Lawn Funeral Home of Ball.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Odis Sr. and Joy (Harkins) Smith; and maternal grandparents, Carl and Arvis (Womack) Jordan.
Mr. Smith
is survived by his wife, Jengi (Miller) Smith; mother and stepfather, Joanne (Jordan) and Herman Walters; father and stepmother, James.O., and Pam (Douglas) Smith; brother and sister in law, Cary and Donna (Baukman) Smith and their children, Garrett,
AnnaLyse, and Cara Smith; sister, Megan Smith and brother, Jared Smith; and parents-in-law, Galton and Dale (Broussard) Boudreaux and Joseph C. and Sheila (Wainwright) Miller.
Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Griffin
Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dericke’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
