Graveside services for Alton LeRoy “Pop” Emmons,
of Leesville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at the Leesville Cemetery, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 2 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Labby Memorial
Funeral Home in Leesville.
Mr. Emmons went to his eternal home Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 97. “Pop” was born on Dec. 18, 1916, in Pelican.
His final days were spent comfortably under the love and care of The Woodlands Health
Care and Hospice of Leesville. “Pop” was a lifetime resident and businessman of Leesville.
“Pop” was an avid outdoorsman, often hunting critters with his buddies that didn’t want to be hunted. The older “Pop” became, the exploits in his
stories became greater. His memories and his telling of these stories were one of many reasons his family loved and will always miss him.
Alton was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Christine Rains Emmons (1996); his second wife
of 12 years, Lucille Mitchell Emmons (2009); and his stepson, Ronnie Mitchell.
Alton is survived by his only daughter, Charlotte Emmons Smith and husband, Bobby of Leesville; grandsons, Douglas F. Smith and wife Stacey of Beaumont, Texas
and Dr. Damon A. Smith ans wife, Sarah of Austin, Texas; great-grandsons Tyler R. Smith of Beaumont, Texas and Rhys A. Smith of Austin, Texas; stepson Donnie Mitchell and his wife, Edie; stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Mitchell; and two stepdaughters,
Connie and Bonnie.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Leesville.
