Funeral services for Joseph R. “Joe” Dowden, 74,
of Anacoco will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Labby Memorial Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with Chap. Daniel Lowe and Betty Jane Corey Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery under the direction of Labby
Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Joseph R. “Joe” Dowden passed away on Jan. 14, 2015 at
his home in Anacoco at the age of 74 years, four months and 29 days.
He was born in Caddo Parish on Aug. 17, 1940, the son of William M. “Billy Boy” Dowden and Willie Valentine Dowden. He lived in Anacoco most of his life and retired from
KCS Railroad as a conductor. He was a devoted husband to his “wife and love of his life,” Charlene McInnis Dowden. He was a devoted father to his three sons. He was an avid sportsman, a bird and hog hunter.
He was preceded in death by his
daughter, Sally Ann Dowden; his parents, Billy Boy and Willie Dowden; his brother, Wm. E. “Bill” Dowden, Huey P. Dowden, Hubert A. Dowden; and his sisters, Eunice Trahan, Earle Chance and Eleanor Withers.
He is survived by his wife,
Charlene M. Dowden; sons, David J. Dowden of New Orleans, Gary S. Dowden and wife Tracie of Anacoco and Charles N. Dowden of Anacoco; three grandchildren, Charlie Dowden, Ashlie Dowden and Calyn Dowden, all of Anacoco; and one brother, Edwin H.
Dowden of Bullard, Texas.
