Funeral services for Dorothy (Dottie) Mae Ewing,
88, of Leesville will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, La., with Rev. Neil Early and Sister Phyllis Milan officiating. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery
under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Dorothy, the daughter of C. Roy Skellion and
Mary E. Mathis, was born May 24, 1927 in Union City, Tenn. She entered eternal rest on Friday, July 24, 2015 at her home in Leesville, La.
Dottie attended the First Christian Church of Leesville. Dottie was a lifetime member of the VFW
Post #3106 and the American Legion Post #145. She was a CASA volunteer at one time. She loved family and loved hearing about her grandkids and great grandkids and their accomplishments. She gained the nickname “Mrs. Kitty” while working for her best
friend Joan Drew. She never met a stranger, always believed in helping those that needed help. At times, you could catch her looking at all the pictures on her refrigerator and she would say, “I’m blessed to have such a large family.” She loved her
pets Frankie and GIGi and all the neighborhood cats she cared for daily.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Shelia Lee; grandson, Walter Lee, Jr., and granddaughter, Nannette Oliver.
She is survived by
her husband: John Ewing of Leesville; sons: Lester & Jane Oliver of Alba, Texas, Larry & Christine Oliver of Elizabethtown, Ky., Danny & Lisa Dowd of Leesville, La.; daughters: Brenda & Kim Langford of Marrero, La., Linda & Jessie
Combs of Ormond Beach, Fl.; two sisters: Phyllis Milan and Margie Meredith, both of Cleveland, Miss.; grandchildren: Thomas Smailus, Denise Bowers, Zeek Langford Sr., Tammy Thompson, Linsey Langford, April Speicher, Jennifer Blakney, Casey Hayes,
Autumn Dowd, Crystal Dowd; great-grandchildren: Helena Marcel, Victoria Langford, Jaycee Thompson, Destiny Langford, Zeek Langford Jr., Hunter Criswell, Rafael Nieves, Abby Speicher, Abrielle Langford, Tyler Penewit, Adalaigh Hayes.
The
family will be celebrating Dottie’s life at the Retired American Legion following the services should you wish to join them.
