Walter Raleigh Cooper, 91, of Leesville, was born on May 24, 1924 in Sicily Island. He passed away on February 11, 2016 at his residence.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII and had a brief livelihood in
the auto industry in Detroit, Mich. followed by a long and fruitful carpentry career in Los Angeles, Calif. before retiring to Leesville.
In Leesville he enjoyed the fellowship of the Ellen Burr Baptist Church.
Walter is
preceded in death by his mother, Anna Thompson Williams; stepfather, Grandison Williams; father, Rev. Martin C. Cooper and sons, Christopher, Douglas & Cornell Cooper.
He is survived by sons Marcus & Gregory Cooper; daughter,
Agusta Collins & numerous cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Ellen Burr Baptist Church on Monday, February 22 at noon. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veteran’s
Cemetery.
