Jerry F. Hilton CMSGT, USAF (RET), of Anacoco was born on December 20, 1940, in Charlotte, N.C., to Floyd and Mavis Hilton. He was preceded in death by his parents. He passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016, in Anacoco.
Mr.
Hilton enlisted in the Air Force on June 10, 1958. During a 30-year career as an Air Traffic Controller, he served six overseas tours, including two tours in Vietnam. His stateside assignments included 17 years at England AFB in Alexandria, where he
was promoted up to CMSGT and retired in February 1988 as Chief Controller, Radar Approach Control (RAPCON).
In November 1988 he was hired as Chief Airspace and Range Management for the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, England AFB.
When England AFB closed in 1992, the job was transferred to Ft. Polk as part of the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). He served as the Chief Airspace Management, 548th Combat Training Squadron that provided the air assets for JRTC
Rotations.
He retired for the second time in May 2006.
His wife Betty said he had three hobbies, fishing, fishing and fishing.
He was a life member of Retired American Legion Post 387 in New Llano, VFW Old Post
3106 in Leesville, Disabled American Veterans, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS) and a 20-year member of the Fort Polk Community Bassmasters.
Mr. Hilton will be cremated with interment at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in
Leesville with Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
He is survived by his wife, Betty G. Hilton; sons, Jerry R. Hilton, Jr., Terry A. Hilton and David W. Hilton; stepsons, Scott A.
and Johnathan H. Matthews; 11 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and sister, Linda D. Burleyson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
