Charles Richard Alcorn Sr.

Charles Richard Alcorn, Sr., 79, passed away at his home in Knight Community of Vernon Parish, surrounded by his family on September 25, 2016.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, also in the Knight Community.
Charles
was very active in sports with the youth of Pitkin Community, and was also an avid domino and pool player winning several trophies. Most of all, Charles, Sr. was known by everyone (family and friends of Vernon Parish as well as
surrounding areas) as a very, very avid fisherman.
Charles was born on June 6, 1937 in Burnside, Ky. of Pulaski County, attending school in New Castle, Ind. He joined the U.S. Army, serving three years, being discharged out at Fort Polk,
living the remainder of his life in Pitkin – with the last 21 years being in the Knight Community.
Charles retired from the Vernon Parish School Board system after nineteen and a half years as a bus driver for Pitkin schools.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Cox and Thomas Shelby Alcorn, Sr.; his brothers, Lester Douglas “Toodler” Alcorn, Thomas Shelby Alcorn, Jr., James Albert Alcorn, Theodore L. Alcorn, William A. Alcorn; and a sister, Nora N.
Alcorn.
Charles is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Loftin Alcorn of Knight Community; his sons, Charles Richard Alcorn, Jr. and wife Kyla of Slagle, Stephen Gerald Slaydon and wife Gloria of DeRidder; his daughters, Susan Alcorn Taggart
and husband Richard of Covington, Mary Catherine Alcorn of Baton Rouge, Shelia Diane Alcorn Brady and husband Jerry of Pitkin, Marie Mechelle Burke Gill and husband Ovie of DeRidder; his brothers, David E. Alcorn and wife Susan of New Castle, Ind.,
George R. Alcorn and wife Carolyn of Indianapolis, Ind., John B. Alcorn and wife Judy of North Vernon, Ind., Horace E. Alcorn and wife Ruth of Burnside, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Cassie D. Young and husband Scott, Krista N. Brady, Mescina L. Pierce,
Frank G. Pierce, Matthew S. Gill, William J. Slaydon, Ashlee M. Slaydon, Richard J. Taggart, Brentley P. Bolton; nine great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held
on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of the Knight Community.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., also at Mt. Carmel
Baptist Church. Burial
will follow in the Hinson Cemetery of the Knight Community.
Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.
