Eugene Wayne Cavanaugh, 74, of Leesville,
Louisiana, passed away, Wednesday September 27, 2017.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church of Leesville on Sunday, October 1, at 3:00 p.m.
Visitation will be Sunday, October
1, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Castor Cemetery in Leesville, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Eugene was born July 10, 1943 in Leesville, LA to parents Ariel and
Lucille Cavanaugh. He was a proud graduate of Leesville High School High School in 1961. He attended Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University.
Eugene served as the Vernon Parish Tax Assessor for 24 years.
Following retirement from the Tax Assessors Office and National Guard Reserves, he engaged in multiple activities that greatly aided his community. Eugene never turned down a chance to help his community. He was a Board Member and Past President of
the Chamber of Commerce, Board Member and Past President of Council on Aging, an active member of First United Methodist Church of Leesville, and various other committees when asked to serve. He enjoyed spending time with his four incredible
grandchildren, rarely missing LSU football games, cheering for the LHS Wampus Cats, reading John Grisham novels, visiting with friends and offices in Leesville, and telling silly jokes.
Eugene is survived by his two sons, Jim
Cavanaugh and his wife Alesha of Zachary and Jake Cavanaugh and his wife Lacey of Sulphur; four wonderful grandchildren, Jackson, Allie, Lyla, and Jordyn Cavanaugh. He is survived by his sisters Judy Welch of Leesville, Connie Kansler of Baton Rouge,
Catherine Perilloux of Baton Rouge, Brin Cavan of Colorado Springs, Tina Cavanaugh of Austin, and brother Kevin Cavanaugh of Port Arthur. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Ariel
Bliss and Lucille Cavanaugh, his wife, Ann Allen Cavanaugh, one brother Corby Lynn Cavanaugh and one sister Melva Cavanaugh.
