Funeral services for Lourdes Jane ‘Janie” Knight,
72, of Leesville, LA were held Friday January 19, 2018 at the Meadowcreek United Methodist Church in Collinsville, OK with Pastors Kenny Davis and Mark Whitley officiating. Casket bearers for the service were Jason Igarta, Jeremy Igarta, Jason
Nellis, Geoffrey Bertram, Mitch Louderback and Harold Goad.
Janie was born on November 20, 1945 in Leyte Samar, Philippine Islands to Pacita Marino Igarta and Esteban Igarta. This was during the occupation and liberation of the Philippine
Islands from Japan by the USA Army. Janie is the eldest child of seven children. She lived as a young child in the Philippines, eventually moving to Japan where Esteban was stationed after the war.
Janie, as a military child, lived in
Fort Lewis, Washington, moved to Guam Island in the Pacific and returned with her family to the US in 1959 to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She graduated from Lawton High School in 1963. Upon graduation, she entered nursing school at Hillcrest Hospital
Nursing program in Tulsa. She graduated in 1966 and moved back to work at Fort Sill Medical Hospital. She met Rick Knight in early 1967 and married him later that year. Rick and Janie’s oldest son, Calvin, was born in Lawton/Fort Sill, OK in 1968.
Their second son, Curtis joined the family in 1979. The family then moved to Fort Polk/Leesville, Louisiana in July of 1981 where Jordanna joined the family with her birth in 1984. Janie and Rick lived in Leesville for 34 years.
Janie was
in Oklahoma City visiting with Curtis and Jordanna the summer of 2017 when she became critically ill. Janie demonstrated a strong will to live while she battled many health issues from August to January 2018. Janie finally found rest and peace in
this life, coming full circle to her profession, where she learned to be a healthcare provider and as she passed from this life to the next on January 16, 2018 at Hillcrest Medical Hospital.
Janie is survived by her husband Rick of the
home, two sons: Calvin Knight-Nellis and husband Jason Knight-Nellis of Indianapolis, IN; Curtis Knight and wife Stephanie of Oklahoma City; a daughter Jordanna Thomas and partner Lonnie Thomas of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren: Caleb, Cody,
Xavier, DeAnthony, Lonnie and Ryla, her mother Pacita Marino of Collinsville; siblings: Steve and Maxine Igarta of Portland, OR; Rome and Brenda Igarta, of Claremore; Jim and Raine Igarta, of Collinsville; Robert and Linda Igarta of Cornell, WI;
Jesse and Carol Igarta of Red Bluff, CA; 51 nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father Esteban Igarta, a sister Teresa Igarta and a nephew Jeffrey Igarta.
Arrangements
were under the directions of Peters-Stumpff Funeral Home.
