Lewis E. Jones peacefully passed away on February
6, 2018, at his residence in New Bern, NC. He moved to New Bern eight months ago, from Baton Rouge, LA to spend his remaining time near his only daughter, Darlene Brown and son-in-law, Paul Brown. He is fondly remembered and survived by his companion
of 20 years, in Baton Rouge, Paula Pittman, and her dearly loved children, Connie Cockerham (Richard), Lisa Crew, and Lynda Pittman. He was also survived by a brother, William “Skeeter” Jones Leesville, LA, and sister, Ethel Jones Lanier, Chelsea,
Alabama. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Muriel; his father, Thomas; and mother, Gladys; and brothers, Thomas, Kenneth, and James Paul; sisters Annie, Jane, and Ruth; and much loved grandfather Henry.

He was
taciturn, holding his emotions close, but there was never any doubt that he loved his family and friends. He was happy to be in New Bern and loved living at McCarthy Court, where the staff was attentive and caring and the residents warm and
welcoming.

Mr. Jones lived his life to provide for his family. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and was humble when recognized and thanked for his service. He was thrilled to have been a part of the Honor
Flight out of New Bern. The US Army was good to the young man from Leesville, LA. “Mr. Jones” retired a Chief Warrant Officer 4, with many commendations and medals from 33 years of military service. He was proud of being a much sought after S-4
specialist.

Every year during Mardi Gras, he would send Darlene and Paul King Cakes to share at work. So, this festival season, celebrate Mr. Jones’ life, by having a piece of King Cake, raising a glass of your favorite
beverage (Margaritas and beer were his favorite), and laissez les bon temps rouler!

Honoring his wishes, a private service will be held.
