Barbara Kochanski Kirkman, a resident of Slagle, Louisiana passed from her earthly home after losing her battle with cancer. Barbara was born on August 29, 1945, on
the Southside of Pittsburgh, PA and lived there until she married her husband, Phillip, and afterward, she traveled with him in the military all over the United States and during a short tour overseas in Germany. Over 35 years ago, Phil and Barbara
chose to settle down in Slagle where they worked at Slagle Grocery and later Slagle Mall for almost the entire 35 years. For those who knew them well, Barbara was lovingly known as “Barb”.
God has a way of placing His angels
among us, and there is no doubt Barb was one of God’s special people, as Barb’s special, unique gift was simply to love everyone! Phil assisted the Slagle Grocery and Slagle Mall in pricing items on the shelves, making minor repairs, and thousands of
trips into town to pick up items needed for the store, and wherever Phil went, Barb would be two steps behind making sure that Phil knew she was his number one helper. But when Barb would see one of her favorite customers drive up to the store (they
were all her favorites), she would run to them with a big smile and a hug to welcome them to Slagle. At Christmas, Barb’s favorite time of the year, she and Phil would give out special gifts to many. She and Phil loved Bubba Haymon, and every
Christmas he was graced with a beautiful shirt. The good people of Slagle have lost a very special friend, and her absence will be sorely missed.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Anna Kochanski.
Left to cherish her sweet, loving memories are her husband of almost 50 years, Phillip Kirkman
