Graham O. Peavy

Graham O. Peavy died on January 23, 2019 from
Alzheimer’s disease. He was 90 years old and lived a full life. He enjoyed dancing and his beloved Leesville Wampus Cats, Northwestern State Demons and LSU Tigers. He danced until the last three weeks of his life and will enjoy dancing again with his
wife Madeline in a heavenly place. A native of Leesville, Louisiana, he was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1958 and an employee of LSU for approximately 35 years. Graham’s first job was working for Kansas City Southern Railway following his father
and is where he developed his love of trains. He was a graduate in Business Administration from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He also served as corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.
He was a member of the Boyd Ewing post of the American Legion on the LSU Campus, having served as the Commander of the Post, finance officer and Area Commander. He was a charter member of the Louisiana Chapter of the National Institute of
Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), serving as Vice President and President. He was also a recognized as Purchasing Agent of the year in 1987 by the NIGP. He served as Regional President of the National Association of Educational Buyers and also
Treasurer and board member of the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Purchasing Agents and of the National Association of Purchasing Managers. He was also a lifetime certified Purchasing Manager of the NAPM. He served as hearing officer for the State
of Louisiana division of State Purchasing and was an evaluator for the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.
Visitation will be at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen on Friday, January 25th from 6 to 9 p.m. and
again on Saturday, January 26th from 9 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m.Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Paul’s Cemetery in Forest Hill, LA. Pallbearers will be Art Goulas, Ken Lavaspere, Darryl Dietrich, Shannon and Chris Richard.
Graham is survived by his two sons, Sidney R. Peavy and Dr. Donald Peavy and wife Melissa, all of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by his stepsons, Shannon Richard and wife Anne, Christopher Richard and wife Genny; stepdaughter, Ashley Richard
Lipford and husband Herman, 7 grandchildren, Graham Peavy, Rachel Peavy, Trent Richard, Victoria Richard, Blaine Lipford , Zachary Lipford, Jacey Richard Partain and husband Blake; 1 great grandchild, Arden Richard; and his sister, Audell Motycka and
husband Frank of Kingwood, Texas. Graham was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Lamkin Peavy; sister, Wynell Crews, parents, Roy and Gertie Graham Peavy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Phil Padgett and his staff for their
wonderful care. Also Heather Meadows and Debbie Brown for being such wonderful caretakers and companions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baton Rouge Alzheimer’s Association.
