LEESVILLE – In their final home contest of their careers, the six seniors for the Lady Cats left it all out on the court.
However, they fell just a little short.
The Lady Cats took a game from the Bears, but it wasn't enough as Leesville dropped a hard-fought match, 25-12, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22 on Thursday evening.
The first game of the match was all Carencro, but Leesville was much more competitive in the second game, owning a 9-8 lead early.
However, the Lady Bears came to life and used a 9-1 run to take a 17-10 lead en route to closing out the set with a 26-16 cushion.
But Leesville was far from done.
After allowing Carencro to take an 11-7 lead, the Lady Cats came roaring back. Senior Ashley Gorrell had two kills and a block to push Leesville into the lead and a later block from Gorrell gave the Lady Cats a 21-15 advantage.
Carencro closed the deficit to four a couple of times, but plays from Mya Wrisper and Kiani Villenas secured the game for the Lady Cats, 25-20.
Wrisper had a couple of early kills in the early going of the fourth game, but Carencro regained its rhythm and opened up a 14-7 advantage.
But the Lady Cats continued to battle a dna closed to within two after an ace by Journey Brannon, 18-16.
After Carencro pushed out to a 24-19 lead, the Lady Cats scored three straight points. But the Lady Bears secured the next point to seal the deal.
It was the final match at home for seniors Gorrell, Wrisper, Villenas, Kathleen West, Katelyn Furlow and Mackenzie Waldrop and all six players were major contributors for head coach Caitlyn Gentry, who coached volleyball for the first time in her career.
