Rosepine meets up with Logansport for homecoming

The Rosepine duo of Caden Stephens (24) and Jake Smith (2) prevented Pickering's Evan Fernandez from getting the corner during the Eagles' win last week over the Red Devils. Rosepine faces Logansport on Friday night for homecoming.

ROSEPINE – Homecoming week can be quite the daunting task to handle when you are a football coach.

But for Rosepine head coach Brad Ducote, this week has been a bit more distracting.

Earlier in the week, he wasn't sure if he was going to have a game to play. Then, Oakdale said it would be available Saturday, so the game was set.

A day later, that was scrapped. Fortunately though, Ducote was able to find his Eagles an opponent.

The Logansport Tigers (4-1) will make the trip south out of DeSoto Parish to face the Eagles at 7 p.m. at McKee-McCain Stadium on Friday in a game that can be heard live on Today's Country 105.7 with Chaston Tavares and Will Norris on the call.

The Tigers are coming off a heartbreaking loss last week against St. Mary's. In that game, Logansport surrendered 15 points in the final few seconds of the game to lose, 46-45.

Logansport features a speedy quarterback who is a threat with both his arms and legs, along with several other explosive players.

That means the Eagle defense, led by tackling machine Caden Stephens, must be as prepared for the Tigers as they were for Pickering last week.

On offense, the Eagles feature a very balanced attack thanks to the play of Ethan Frey at quarterback and Grant Ducote at running back.

Frey is very capable of throwing for between 200 and 300 yards, while also using his legs to run for big yardage. His favorite targets are Bryant Merriwether, Cole Donahue and Jake Smith.

Ducote has the ability to carry a big load in the running game and has had a number of 100-yard games this season.
