Leesville teams finish second at Wampus Cat Relays

LEESVILLE – The North DeSoto Griffins and Lady Griffins proves to be too much as they held off the challenge from hosting Leesville to win the team titles at the annual Wampus Cat Relays on Thursday in Leesville.
The Griffins racked up 176.5 points to claim the title in the boys' division, as Leesville, DeRidder, Rosepine and Lakeview rounded out the top five. Leesville finished with 137 points, while DeRidder and Rosepine came in with 89 and 84.5, respectively. Lakeview had a total of 46.5 points.
On the girls' side, the Lady Griffins put up 163 points, while the Lady Cats were second overall with 105. Rosepine edged DeRidder for third with 89 points. The Lady Dragons had 87 points and Lakeview was fifth with 63 points.
Leesville managed to come away with first place in seven individual events and one relay.
Caleb Gallashaw was first overall in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, while Antonio Blackwell was first on both the 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Leesville had one more first-place showing on the track with its sprint relay squad, while Jaymeion Henderson, Kemari Pruitt and Caden Bealer were first place in the high jump, triple jump and javelin, respectively.
Rosepine won the 3200-meter relay event, while Johnny Lindsey was first overall in the 800 meters.
DeRidder had one first-place finish in the field as Derron Griffin won the shot put competition.
As for the girls, Leesville won seven events, while DeRidder won four events. Rosepine and Pickering won two events apiece.
Lina Zacapa-Mills was dominant for Leesville once again, winning the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter races, while Za'Rieah Foster won the 200-meter dash.
Monika Ortiz won the 400-meter dash for Leesville, while the Lady Cats were winners in the 800 and 1600-meter relay races.
The Lady Dragons won the sprint relay event, but garnered three individual wins in the field. Joelle Terry was victorious in the long jump, while Maison Wilbanks and Cameron Mount won the high jump and pole vault respectively.
Rosepine sprinter Amaya Shine was the winner of the 100-meter dash, while the Lady Eagle 3200-meter relay team won as well.
The Lady Red Devils earned two wins in the field thanks to My'Kia Freeney, who won both the shot put and the javelin.
