ROSEPINE – The Rosepine Eagles are moving on.
Braden Trull overcame a shaky start, throwing six solid innings as the second-seeded Eagles completed the two-game sweep of the Fisher Gators in the Class 2A quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, 7-3.
With the win, the Eagles punched their ticket to the Class 2A state tournament, where they will face the Mangham Dragons, who rallied to win its series with Springfield on Saturday, sweeping Games 2 and 3.
The game between Rosepine and Mangham is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at McMurry Park in Sulphur.
Early on, however, it looked as if Fisher might send the series to a third and deciding game. The Gators scored a run in the second and two in the third to open up a 3-0 advantage.
But the Eagles came to life over the final four innings. After scoring two in the fourth, Rosepine was able to move into the lead in the fifth, 4-3.
Rosepine continued to add their total in the sixth and seventh, scoring three times to secure the victory.
Trull gave up three runs on five hits with six strikeouts. He aided his own cause with a hit and an RBI.
Ethan Frey, who pitched the final inning, had a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI, while Brady Phelps and Jake Smith each had a hit and an RBI.
Trey Usey suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits with nine strikeouts. Tyler Landry had two hits and an RBI, while Lane Creppel had a pair of hits.
