LEESVILLE — It went down to the wire.
In the final minute of play, South Beauregard standout Alexa Midkiff connected on the go-ahead goal, lifting the Lady K’s to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Leesville Lady Cats in the opening match of the 2021-22 soccer campaign.
Midkiff scored a pair of goals for the Lady K’s (1-0) in the second half as the match remained close throughout. Leesville (0-1) proved to be quite the competition as the momentum fluctuated back and forth between the teams.
Megan Johnes got the Lady Cats on the board off a feed from Ariyah Green, who later scored herself off a feed from Nickol Komsuprom. Leesville’s third goal came on a free kick off the foot of Brianna Troutman in the second half.
Josee Gaspard and Emma Harris each scored a goal in the first half for the Lady K’s with Ashley Graham responsible for both assists. Midkiff scored both of her goals in the final 10 minutes of play, off an assist each from Graham and Marcee Myers.
Freshman Brooklyn Willis notched eight saves in the loss for the Lady Cats.

In what was a historic outing for South Beauregard, the Golden Knights fell in defeat to the Leesville Wampus Cats junior varsity squad, 5-1.
This is the first year for South Beauregard to field a male soccer team and a penalty kick goal from Michael Veillon etched his name in history as well with the first score in SBHS history.
However, the Golden Knights couldn’t overcome solid play from a trio of Leesville freshmen. Ezra Smyth netted a pair of goals, while Brett Huglen and John Phillips each scored a goal. The other score for Leesville came by virtue of a South Beauregard own goal.
