It was all fun and games at The Box, Leesville’s local comic book store. The Box held a special event on Saturday, Dec. 4, in which people of all ages could come learn how to play a popular new tabletop game known as Marvel Crisis Protocol.
Marvel Crisis Protocol has players collect miniatures based on characters from the Marvel Universe (Spider-Man, Captain America, The Hulk, etc.) and battle other players. The game is growing in popularity and The Box held a free play day where anyone could come to the store and learn how to play the new game for free.
Colby Delaune was on hand at The Box to teach people how to play the game. Delaune is the owner of Secondhand Soldiers, a shop that specializes in tabletop games and board games in Shreveport. Delaune said Marvel Crisis Protocol is a very accessible game for newcomers.
“If you wanted to try a tabletop game or board game, this is the game to start with,” Delaune said. “This is the game to start with. It is not an overwhelming amount of miniatures. There is some hobby involved, meaning building and painting. The rules are easy to pick up, which makes the game easy to learn but hard to master.”
Delaune said tabletop gaming fosters a sense of community among players, and is a good way to build relationships among friends and family.
“I’m a family man. I’ve got kids,” Delaune said. “I am big on community, and I think that gaming is a way to build a healthy community. My wife and I play these games, it’s great for our relationship. It is great for building relationships with others as well.”
