Lady Indians win all three games at Mickey Goins Memorial Tournament

ANACOCO— The Anacoco Lady Indians picked up three big wins over the weekend at the annual Mickey Goins Memorial Tournament at Anacoco High School.
The Lady Indians beat Simpson, Huntington and Northwest en route to finishing the event with a 3-0 record.
Against Simpson, the Lady Indians had relatively little trouble as they cruised to a 55-21 victory over the Lady Broncos. Anna Claire Vinson scored 13 points to lead the Lady Indians, while Bella Henry notched 10 points.
In the win over Huntington, the post duo of Paige Mayo and Bailey Davis were dominant as the Lady Indians stunned the Lady Raiders, 49-46. Davis and Mayo each scored 21 points in the win, while Huntington got 15 points from Kalea Dean.
Finally, the Lady Indians downed Northwest, 55-36. Once again, Mayo and Davis were dominant as Mayo netted a game-high 29 points, while Davis finished with 20 points. Kinsley Batiste led Northwest with 12 points.
The Hicks Lady Pirates also went 2-0 in the tournament, avenging an earlier loss to the Rosepine Lady Eagles, while also beating Huntington.
Four players scored in double figures for Hicks as it downed Huntington, 61-40. Lauren Quinn had 16 points, while Avery Coffman added 15 points. Shyanne Phillips and Reese Stephens each finished with 10 points. Dean led Huntington with 13 points.
In a 49-39 win over Rosepine, the Lady Pirates got 14 points from Coffman, along with 12 and 11 points from Phillips and Stephens, respectively. Addison Fruge paced the Lady Eagles with 15 points.
In other girls’ action, the Lady Broncos lost games to both Evans and Oak Hill, while Rosepine came away with a win over Evans.
Wins were few and far between on the boys’ side of the bracket for Vernon Parish teams as Hicks, Rosepine, Simpson and Anacoco went a combined 2-7.
The only wins for Vernon Parish teams came as Anacoco downed Rosepine, 62-44, and Hicks topped Oak Hill, 60-25.
In Anacoco’s win over Rosepine, both Dustin Welch and Brayden Prichard finished with 18 points, while Chase Taylor added 10 points. Rosepine got a team-high 15 points from Hayden Brister.
As for Hicks, the Pirates had three players in double figures, led by Conner Helton with 14 points. Damien Lavery chipped in with 13 points and Landon Goodwin added 10 points.
The remaining portion of the tournament saw Simpson lose to both Red River and Family Christian, Hicks drop a decision to Family Christian, Rosepine lose to Red River and Anacoco dropping games to Northwest and Evangel.
