The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing its investigation into a fatal mobile home fire that occurred in Leesville Tuesday morning.

According to officials, firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a residence in the 3800 block of Camp Baker Road just after 7:30 a.m.

A man’s body was found in a back room of the residence. Officials said a woman was also in the home at the time of the fire, but that she had been able to escape.

Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue said that while Fire Marshal deputies continue to investigate the cause of the fire, a sad discovery was made in regards to the home’s smoke alarms.

“It has been determined that smoke alarms were hard-wired into the mobile home’s electrical system, however, the breaker powering those alarms was switched off,” Rodrigue said.

Officials said more information will be released as it becomes available.
