Lady Cats go 2-1 at own tourney

One day after a comeback win over district rival DeRidder, the Leesville Lady Cats took on the South Beauregard Lady K’s on the first day of the Leesville Tournament.
Things didn’t go the way of the Lady Cats against South Beauregard, but on Saturday, the Lady Cats rebounded to be parish opponents, Evans and Pickering, to close out the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Against South Beauregard, the Lady K’s got three home runs from powerhouse Morgan Eaves, along with a homer each from Hannah Hayes and Emelie Price as they downed the Lady cats, 15-3.
The Lady K’s pounded out 21 hits in the seven-inning contest, while Leesville managed just six hits off of Alyssa Cloessner, who struck out six and gave up three runs on six hits.
After two scoreless innings, SBHS took a 12-0 lead after the top of the fifth, but Leesville rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame to keep the game going. However, SBHS got three more insurance runs in the seventh to seal the win.
Suehelly Pagan had a triple, a run scored and two RBIs to lead the Lady Cats, while Kathryn Keys had a double.
The Lady Cats battled back on Saturday to pick up identical 9-5 wins over both Pickering and Evans.
Against Pickering, Leesville fell behind, 5-4 after three innings, but rallied for one in the fifth and four in the sixth to secure the victory.
Pagan had a pair of doubles and three RBIs to lead the Lady Cats, while Amaya Thomas had a double, a triple and two RBIs. Keys had a double and two RBIs as well.
In the win over the Lady Eagles of Evans, the Lady Cats jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to the victory.
Karis Kiker had a double, a home run and three RBIs, while Thomas had four hits, which included a pair of doubles, and an RBI with two runs scored.
