Investigators with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office are looking into two separate incidents that Sheriff Sam Craft said involved what appears to be attempts to kidnap children Sunday afternoon.
According to Craft, residents in the area of Lebleu Road reported that two Caucasian men driving a white Chevrolet Z71 four-door pickup attempted to lure children into their vehicle near two different residences.
Craft said the first incident involved a 12 year-old girl who was walking to a neighbor’s house. He said the men stopped in the roadway and repeatedly called out to the girl, telling her to come over to their truck. The child became alarmed and ran to the nearest residence, Craft said.
The second incident, according to Craft, occurred just a short distance away from the first incident and involved three female juveniles who were playing in the front yard of their home.
In this incident, Craft said the men stopped their truck and called out to the girls just as before, trying to get them to come over to their truck. The mother of the children stepped out onto the porch of the home and the truck quickly left the area.
The children described the driver of the truck as having sandy blonde hair that was curly on top. The girls also indicated that the truck has some type of gray-colored graphic or decal on the side of the truck.
Craft said that he is hoping that any neighbors with security cameras may have caught images of the men.
“We are asking that any residents nearby with surveillance cameras within the area of Lebleu Road to review their camera footage for the specified timeframe of between 3:40 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.,” Craft stated.
