ROSEPINE —The Rosepine duo of Kelly Norris and Taylor Farris were a solid 1-2 punch for the Lady Eagles.
Norris was a slasher with the ability to hit from long range. Farris was a deadly sharpshooter from three and a lengthy defender with the ability to alter shots.
After both being named first-team all-district, as well as being chosen to the BWS Sports all-Vernon Parish basketball team, they have garnered a little more recognition from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Just a couple of weeks removed from leading the Lady Eagles to the Class 2A semifinals, both Norris and Farris were chosen as honorable mention selections on the all-state team.
Norris and Farris both averaged double figures for the Lady Eagles this past season, where they reached the semifinals after knocking off Lakeview on the road.
Norris was good for about 16 points per game in her sophomore campaign, while Farris, an LSU-Eunice commit, averaged about 14 points per outing for the Lady Eagles.
Rosepine head coach C.T. Kiely was very proud of both of his players for winning all-state recognition.
“I’m extremely happy for both Taylor and Kelly,” Kiely said. “Taylor has meant so much to this program and for her to go out with a trip to the Top 28 and being honorable mention all-state is a great wayt to close out her high school career.
“And for Kelly just being a sophomore and having back-to-back all-state honorable mentions is amazing,” Kiely added. “It gives her something to build on for the future.”
The Class 2A Most Outstanding Players this year, as chosen by the LSWA were Jalencia “Jen” Pierre of Amite and Chris Lockett of Newman. Pierre averaged 25.8 points per outing, leading her team to the state title, while Lockett averaged 13.5 points per game.
Taylor Mims-Wharton of Episcopal was named the girls’ Coach of the Year, while Port Allen’s Dimaro Jackson won the same honor on the boys side.
