Lady Tigers fall at Monterey; Pickering, Simpson lose openers

MONTEREY — Hannah Hitt collected four hits and Briana King struck out five in four innings in leading the No. 12 Monterey Lady Wolves to a 12-3 win over the No. 21 Pitkin Lady Tigers on Monday in the first round of the Class B playoffs.
Pitkin took the initial lead of the game with three runs in the top of the second, thanks to a two-run single off the batt of Tucker Perkins and an RBI from Charley Lentz.
However, the Lady Wolves responded with eight runs in the bottom of the frame and single runs in both the third and the fourth to open up a 10-3 advantage.
Monterey added some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two more times to seal the deal.
King gave up three runs on five hits with five strikeouts in four innings in the circle, while also collecting three hits with an RBI. Allie Lipsey added two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Wolves.
Perkins suffered the loss, going just 1.1 innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits. Mya Odom closed out the game in the circle for the Lady Tigers, giving up four runs on two hits with one strikeout.
Shae Wetzel had a pair of hits and a run scored for the Lady Tigers.
In other playoff action, the No. 24 Pickering Lady Red Devils were shut out in their Class 2A first-round game by D’Arbonne Woods, 12-0, while the No. 14 Simpson Lady Broncos dropped an 11-1 decision to No. 3 Downsville in the opening round of the Class C playoffs, 11-1. Additionally, the No. 17 Leesville Lady Cats fell on the road in the Class 4A playoffs to No. 16 Rayne, 5-1.
