Visitation and Funeral Services for Betty Chance Green was held at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at Oak Grove Bible Baptist Church of Hornbeck with The Rev. John Northway officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hornbeck, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Betty was born on April 17, 1939 to her parents, L.R. and Elsie Koontz Chance in Hornbeck, La., and passed away Jan. 7, 2023, in Many, La., at the age of 83.
She was a lifelong resident of the Vernon and Sabine Parish area and attended Oak Grove Bible Baptist Church where she was the Church Secretary for over 51 years. She enjoyed playing mad games of Scrabble or Phase 10 with family and friends, painting, reading, singing and tending to her magnificent Rio Samba rose bushes.
Betty retired as an Office Assistant at Hornbeck High School after many years as a substitute teacher and Teacher’s Aide with the Reading Lab programs. She loved working with young people and jumped at the chance to hold a baby at any opportunity.
Betty married Jerry Green on Aug. 26, 1963. They celebrated 59 years of marriage in 2022.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Shirley Chance Dodson.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Jerry of Hornbeck, La.; daughters, Sharon Diane Green of Anacoco, La., Beverly Dawn Frederick (Branan) of Burkeville, Texas; and son, David Garvis Green of Hornbeck, La.; grandchildren, Michael, Chase and Jade’ Frederick; and a host of nieces and nephews from Tennessee to California.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to The Alzheimer Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
