Sowela Technical Community College’s Office of Workforce Solutions is now registering for Emergency Medical Training (EMT) with classes meeting Tuesday and Thursday evenings and one Saturday a month starting Tuesday, June 25 — a convenient training option for individuals who are working and want to upskill their credentials or make a career change.
Students will learn the emergency medical service system, the role and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician, patient packaging, anatomy, physiology, patient assessment, airway management and more.
The EMT certification is a great launching point to become a paramedic or firefighter. Further, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects a 19% gain in EMT and Paramedic employment across the state of Louisiana over the next decade, which means individuals with these certifications are in demand and have strong job security.
The cost of the training is $1,950. Scholarships and financial assistance are available for those that qualify. Limited training seats are available. Classes are held at Sowela’s Leesville location, 15014 Lake Charles Highway.
