The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for Leah Brittian, 20, of Evans to confirm her safety and well-being as of Thursday

Det. Rhonda Jordan said her family last heard from her about three weeks ago via a phone call. Her family did not know where she was located at the time of the phone call.

Jordan said Brittian has no physical or mental conditions that are pertinent to the case.

Last week on Sunday, July 21, Billy Brittian of Burr Ferry was reported missing. He was found the next day. Jordan confirmed that Leah and Billy are distantly related, but that there is no correlation between the two cases.

This summer, there have been several missing person cases handled by VPSO, including two minors in June: Dylan Walters, 15, and McKenzie Cryer, 13.

All previous missing persons who have recently been reported in Vernon Parish have been located and confirmed safe.

Jordan said that this is a higher than usual number of cases, but they have all boiled down to communication breakdowns.

“It’s a failure to communicate with their friends and loved ones, and then the worry sets in and that’s when we’re contacted.”

She said that it is important that individuals keep their circle updated on their location and plans wo ensure safety.

“Let someone know where you’re at or where you’re going to be, regardless of age,” she said.

“Communicate with friends and family just so they’re not put through any worry.”
