Two exhibits will grace the gallery walls of GALLERY ONE EIIIEVEN in the last months of 2024.
‘The Girl and the Shape and Other Recent Objects’
A reception for the photo essay exhibit “The Girl and the Shape and Other Recent Objects” will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the gallery, located at 111 Third St. in Leesville.
The exhibit comprises 15 black-and-white stills on film (no digital editing in sight) that encourage audiences to analyze the depths of their psyche, said Gallery Coordinator Tony McDonald. The photographs “explore and lay bare how humans covet, interact with and harbor things.”
“The Girl is all of us and the Shape is what we choose it to be,” he said. “Our drug, our crutch, our savior? The Shape can be a cross, an ‘X,’ a pentagram, a hypodermic needle, an origami swan or a random found object. Aren’t they really the same?”
The exhibit will be hosted alongside other photographs and found object sculptures by Paul Nettles.
“The Girl and the Shape and Other Recent Objects” will be displayed until October 11.
Linda Moss
Recent paintings by Shreveport artist Linda Moss will be displayed from Oct. 17 to Nov. 8.
Moss primarily works in acrylic, “sometimes in combination with found objects and bits of refuse,” she said in her artist statement.
“Emotions play a huge part in my inspiration, as does nature. I believe that inspiration can come from almost anything and art is most certainly in the eye of the beholder.”
McDonald said that Moss has been exhibited in the gallery before.
“We found her current work to be exciting and worth a new exhibit.”
An opening reception for Moss’ exhibit will be held at 6 p.m. on October 19 at the gallery.
