The Vernon Parish Library believes every story matters and that every author should be championed.

To continue its mission of supporting local authors and literature, the library will host the second annual Local Authors Signature Party this April.

Last year, the library decided to host an event for local authors from Vernon Parish and surrounding parishes to sell their books and meet with readers face-to-face.

Brenda Franklin, assistant librarian of the Vernon Parish Library, said the inaugural signing had an “overwhelmingly positive response.” Thirteen authors participated and more than 200 guests flowed in and out of the library to meet them.

The genre of books they had available for sale ranged from nonfiction to comics to Christian literature.

“Authors who live and write among us inspire not only readers but also aspiring writers, proving that creativity and storytelling thrive right here at home. Events like author meet-and-greets or book signings give our patrons a rare opportunity to connect with the minds behind the books, sparking meaningful conversations and new ideas.”

The signature party was founded with the mission to foster community connection with the arts and encourage authors to pursue and perfect their craft. Libraries that platform authors cultivate a “vibrant literary culture” with diverse voices, experiences and pieces of literature, she said.

“Ultimately, supporting local authors is about celebrating the people who make our community unique. It’s about shining a light on their creativity, sharing their stories, and helping them inspire others,” she explained.

Even more than showcasing their publications, the authors provide the community with invaluable gifts of knowledge and experience and made it an inspiring experience for everyone involved. “It was a celebration of creativity and community that we’re excited to build on this year,” she said.

The sign-up period for this year’s signature party is open until Feb. 21. Interested authors can submit a completed contact sheet with a biography, a list of books that will be sold and accepted payment methods to the library.

The library will provide space and tables for the authors, but participants are responsible for materials for displays and sales.

Interested authors can call 337-239-2027 for more information.

The signing event will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the meeting room at the main branch library in Leesville, 1401 Nolan Trace, later this year.

Light refreshments will be served.
