The Leesville Council has agreed to proceed with the construction of a splash pad at the city’s recreational complex with an initial deposit in the amount of $31,244.21. The complex will not be closed during the progress.

Bids will go out for advertisement to fence in two baseball fields at the complex, as well as for the clearing of 15 acres of debris to include stump removal.

“I want to tell everyone here if you have not seen what’s going on here at our ball complex, with what the mayor and the council’s doing, there’s a lot of exciting things going on and it’s not just for the ballplayers,” Council Member at Large Phillip Hunt said. “I encourage everyone to go look around — it’s not the same ballpark it was 10 years ago.”

The council also approved an event permit for Jason Smith at CW Stables to host the annual Juneteenth Trail Ride event at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 15.

Councilman Alice Guess reminded the public to check on your neighbors, especially the elders during the summer heat.

Mayor Rick Allen said the council and the Vernon Paris Police Jury are jointly looking to create a solution to get traffic around the train tracks during certain times; this topic will be discussed at the next meeting. The council will meet again at 3 p.m. Monday, June 23.
