Funeral services
for James A. Stinson, 82, of Leesville, will be held Monday, January 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 601 S. Fourth Street in Leesville with Rev. Maurice Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Memorial
Cemetery in Leesville. Visitation will be Monday, January 4 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
James Stinson was born April 29,
1927 in Thomaston, Ga. He enjoyed a long decorated military career that included the Navy and Army, retiring in 1968 after 22 years of service. After retiring from the military he worked for the Angola State Prison System.
In 1955 he
married Mary Dortch of Mingo Junction, Ohio. To this union three children were born, two daughters and one son. Stinson and his family were part of the Leesville/Fort Polk community since 1968.
Mr. Stinson was preceded in death by his
wife of 49 years, Mary Stinson, who died in 2004.
He leaves to cherish beautiful memories: Lagwenda Stinson Cooper of Leesville; Lawanda Stinson Horton (Ethan) of Charlotte, N.C. and Patrick Stinson of Los Angeles, Calif.; four
grandchildren, Cory Cooper (Jessica), Sasha Cooper, Jay Horton and Kyle Horton; two great grandchildren Torian Cooper and Cayden Cooper; five siblings, Mary Frances Franklin, William Stinson, Allie Thomas, Gertrude Bentley and Andrew Stinson and a
host of other family and friends.
