Funeral services for Wilmer W. “Bill” Parker, 86, will be held at 1
p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Anacoco. Interment will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery on Texas Highway. Viewing will be held at Hixson Funeral Home Friday, January 22, 2010 from noon until 9 p.m. and Saturday at
First Baptist Church of Anacoco from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Wilmer W. Parker was born January 13, 1924 in Leesville to Samuel Thomas and Eliza Martha Parker.
Upon graduation from Leesville High School in 1942,
he served in the U.S. Horse Calvary and Combat Engineers during World War II. After earning 4 battle stars serving in Italy, France, Germany and Austria, he returned home to marry Pauline Martin on June 15, 1945.
He received a
bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas.
He dedicated his professional life to the Vernon Parish School system for 53 years as a teacher, coach, principal, supervisor and
member of the School Board.
He was a member of the Orange Lodge 319, V.F.W., Louisiana Teachers Association and First Baptist Church of Anacoco.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; his three daughters, Sharon
Firestone and her husband Barry, Deborah Williams and her husband Charles and Pamela Andis; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Ella Martin; and one brother, Willie Parker.
