Ella Beatrice Martin

Funeral services for Ella Beatrice Martin, 91, of Leesville, will be
held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Pine Hill Baptist Church in Leesville with Rev. Tye Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 19 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the church. Services
are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville.
Ella, the daughter of Samuel and Martha Phillips Parker, was born on July 8, 1918 in Leesville. She passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at her residence in
Leesville.
Ella Beatrice Martin was a lifetime resident of Vernon Parish. She loved gardening and had a green thumb as evidenced by her beautiful flowers. During World War II she worked at Consolidated Air Craft in California and was
the first woman master mechanic on the B-24 Bomber and fighter planes. After the war ended she returned to Louisiana and became the first woman barber and cut all her niece’s and nephew’s hair for years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and
loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milburn F. Martin.
She is survived by sons, Rev. Bill Martin (wife, Anna) of Mountain View, Mo. and Wallace Martin (wife, Terri) of Haughton; daughter, Princess
Fahnestock (husband, Lewis) of Licking, Mo., brother Willie Parker of Leesville; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild.
