Memorial services for Rachel Ophelia Newman Owsley of Leesville, will be
held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 11 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time in the chapel Saturday.
Rachel, the daughter of Hillie and Geneva Skillman Newman, was born on
February 25, 1938 in Augusta, Ga. She passed away on Tuesday, December 7 at her residence in Leesville. Rachel has lived in Leesville since 1964; she formerly managed then owned and operated Jim’s Lounge in Leesville for many years and upon her
retirement her greatest joy was mowing her grass.
She is survived by her sons, W. A. Carter, Jr. of Grand Prairie, Texas, first Lt. John Maurice Owsley of Leesville and Lester Owsley of Leesville; daughter, Carole Cary of El Dorado
Springs, Mo.; brothers, Jerry Newman of North Augusta, S.C. and Morgan Lankford of Augusta, Ga.; sister, Joyce Jacobs of Quitman, Miss.; grandchildren, Jason Burns, Christin Carter, Keagan Owsley, Ashley Landrum and Jeremy Landrum; and great
grandchildren Jonathan Brister and Morgan Carter.
