Annie Bell, the daughter of David
Walter and Mattie West Sterling, was born on May 5, 1947, in Hornbeck. Annie was surrounded by family when she peacefully passed away on Jan. 7, 2012.
Annie Bell is survived by two sons, Gary Dean and Ryan Dean; one brother, Huey M.
Stidivent and wife Dot of Vidor, Texas; two sisters, Faye Manes and husband Gene of Hornbeck and Bertha Lee Weeks of Anacoco. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Bill Sterling, Henry Sterling and Huey Sterling.
In
1965, Annie graduated at the top of her class from Hornbeck High School and later received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands. While attending a local college, she met and later married Larry Dean. The two moved to Southern
California and raised two sons. In addition to being a loving mother, Annie worked as the supervisor of an accounting department for a large aircraft and defense company.
Annie was an active member of Saddleback Church in Irvine, Calif.
She was involved in numerous charities and was very active in a thyroid cancer support group. She loved to travel and took several cruise trips around the world with her life partner, Al Banner. When not traveling, Annie was often found in the
kitchen or working on new recipes. She loved to cook and found great pleasure teaching her daughters-in-law the art of southern cooking. Most importantly, she loved spending quality time with family.
Annie touched the lives of many people
and all were inspired by her courageous ten year battle with cancer. A celebration of life will also be held in southern California later this month.
