Funeral services for Alma Smith Johnson, 89, of Evans will be held at 1
p.m. on March 31 at Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Evans with Rev. Melvin Smith and Rev. George Jeane officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery in Evans under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on March 30 and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 31 at the church.
Alma was born on May 15, 1922, in Evans. She passed away on March 27, 2012, at her home in Evans.
Mrs. Johnson
was valedictorian of her 1939 Evans High School graduating class. She married the love of her life, O.G. “Buddie” Johnson, and they settled and raised their family in the Houston area. Upon retirement, they returned to Evans, where she was a
homemaker and member of Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church.
After 70 years of marriage, she was widowed in 2009. She was preceded in death by husband, O.G. “Buddie” Johnson; daughters, Carolyn Peppard and Joan Carroll; grandson,
Charles Peppard, and five siblings.
She is survived by her son, Johnnie R. and wife Donna Johnson of Spring, Texas; brother, Norris Smith of Evans; sister, Blanche Reynolds of Houma; five grandchildren, Tracie Peppard, Kimberley Hayes,
Christopher Johnson, Karen Kashyap and John David Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Kylie Hayes, Hunter Hayes and Lorien Johnson.
