Henry Cain Rogers was born on Dec. 9, 1939 in DeRidder to Cecil Audy and
Evelyn Loretta Jeane Rogers. Henry, 72, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2012 at Good Shepard Hospital in Longview, Texas. Henry fought an amazing battle over a 10 year period with numerous illnesses and is now at peace and no longer in pain.
Memorial services for Henry will be held at 2 p.m. on May 10 at The Ministry, located at 1600 Crestview in Longview, Texas, and at 2 p.m. on May 11 at the First Baptist Church of Rosepine.
The world lost an amazing man when
Henry drew his last breath. He was an great son, brother, loving husband of 48 years, a terrific father, and a grandfather extraordinaire. From childhood to death, he was larger than life. He was small of stature at only 5’5″ but had the heart and
ambition of a lion. Fueled by this ambition and the need to provide for his ever blossoming family he started H Rogers Auto Parts in 1969 with a small investment and parlayed this into an empire. Henry liked to dabble in everything. His next project
started when Fort Polk became more family oriented; he saw the need for housing for soldiers. From this, H Rogers Mobile Homes was born in 1971. For many years Henry provided much needed housing for thousands of our soldiers and their families.
The empire continued to grow; at its peak, it included the Dixie Automotive Warehouse, seven auto parts stores throughout Louisiana, a machine shop, the mobile home business, a general store, a used car sales, a furniture store, and of course,
Uncle Henry’s Barbeque. Henry was always a go-getter and was a pioneer in employing women in the predominantly male field of the auto parts business. After his stellar career Henry became ill and retired.
His retirement began a new and
exciting phase in Henry’s life. He was free to travel and his grandchildren reaped the benefits. You could always count on an adventure with Paw Paw. His fun spur of the moment trips with all the grandchildren in tow were legendary. There was no
place too far Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, or just to the park around the corner. His grandchildren became his life and he doted on them and adored them to no end. Our lives will never be the same without his wit and joy for life.
