Roy Kimbrel Gordy

Funeral services for Roy Kimbrel Gordy, 67, of Leesville will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 10 at
Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Mike Rhame and Danny George officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be held from 5-10 p.m. on Sept.
9 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Sept. 10 at the church.
Roy, the son of J.W. (Wilmer) Gordy, and Lela Jeter Gordy, was born in Leesville. He was a graduate of Simpson High
School and a lifetime resident of Vernon Parish.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 21 years, Pat, (Patricia Carver) Gordy, son; Joe (Joseph Roy) Gordy and wife
Debbie of Shreveport; daughters, Jeannie (Beverly Jean Gordy) Coulter of Shreveport and Sylvia Dowden Hedrick and husband Shorty of Leesville; sister, Mary Ann Butler and husband Melvin of Shreveport; brother, Duffy (W.G.) Gordy and wife Linda of
Leesville; father and mother-in-law, Cullen and LaVern Carver of Burr Ferry; grandchildren, Dirk, Magen, Alicia, Autumn, Kimberlyn and great-grandchildren, Shelby, Amber and Reagan.
Roy enjoyed trucks and purchased his first dump truck and
trailer very early in his adult life. Trucks, tractors and all kinds of heavy equipment have always been the work he enjoyed. He worked with dirt, sand and gravel, but mostly asphalt, hauling and also testing it as a Plant Lab Technician. He also
enjoyed his 4 1/2 years in the Army, based at Fort Polk and in Germany, during the Vietnam War. In retirement, he treasured his early morning Bible time and his in-depth study of God’s word. He served as the adult men’s Sunday school teacher until
his battle with cancer no longer allowed him to attend. He had a love to get Bibles in the hands of those who were interested in the word and wanted to read and understand it better. He was thrilled to be a part of shipping Bibles to foreign
countries.
Serving as pallbearers are Stephen Gordy, Joe Pelliccio, Nolan McCool, Danny Ray McCool, Roger Bennett and Tommy K. Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are Dirk Edgeworth, David Gordy and Darrell Gordy.
Roy wished to thank
everyone for all the ‘gifts of love’ that we were blessed with during the extended time of sickness and thanks for the support of all the prayers. Roy’s long journey home is now complete. He was made comfortable the last months in the hands of the
Palliative Care Unit at the Veteran’s Hospital in Alexandria, with Dr. Erlinda Tan, Mrs. Kay Kimble and all the wonderful staff. His strength and courage was great, talking so much about God to all that would listen. He fought a good fight, finished
the course and kept the faith.

Alexandria, Dr. Kanchan Upadahyay, Dr. Jose Matthew, Dr. Jocelyne Salkali of the Byrd Hospital in Leesville, Dr. Steven Wheat, of Natchitoches, Vernon Home Health and Hospice of Leeesville, and thanks to all the wonderful nurses and staff at each
