Funeral services for Tommy Allen, “Trigger,” 66, of DeRidder will be held
at 10 a.m. on Sept. 28 at First Baptist Church in DeRidder. Officiating will be Rev. Lynn Clayton, minister of New Life Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in DeRidder, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of
DeRidder.
Visitation will be held from 4-10 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
John Thomas Allen “Tommy,” was born on July 19, 1946, to Norman
Allen and Anna Crumpler Allen in DeRidder. He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1964, where he still held the track record in the 220-yard dash with a time of 21.1 seconds. He was also a three-time all-district and all-state tail back in high
school. Tommy graduated from LSU in 1969, with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. While at LSU he was redshirted his freshmen year and was a starting player from 1965 until 1968. He played in the first annual Peach Bowl and he played in the Cotton
Bowl. Though he had several jobs, Tommy was an entrepreneur at heart. He opened the Sears Dealer Store in DeRidder and the Blockbuster Video Store. Tommy and Dorothy were members of New Life Baptist Church. Tommy Allen was always very humble, loyal,
and faithful in all that he did. He passed from this life on Sept. 25, 2012, at his residence in DeRidder.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nichols Allen of DeRidder, married 29 years; three sons, Mark Allen of DeRidder, Mike Allen of
Lake Charles and Daniel McFarland of Hinston; three daughters, Missy Williams of DeRidder, Mindy Runge of Mansfield and Angela Hickman of DeRidder; one sister, Sandra Eschete of Lafayette and nine grandchildren.
