Memorial services for Terry Glen Haley, 62, of Anacoco will be held at 10 a.m. on March 9 at
Good Hope Baptist Church in Anacoco. Terry’s wish was to be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville. There will be a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Terry was born Sept. 9, 1950 to Arlon E. and Bobbie Jean Haley in Tylertown, Miss. He passed from this life on March 1, 2013 at Byrd Regional Hospital after a yearlong bout with cancer.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents,
Arlon E. and Bobbie Jean Haley of Leesville.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Catherine Rose Pelt Haley and son, Christopher Ryan Haley of Burr Ferry. He also leaves behind his sister, Judy Holsomback of Georgia; and two nieces and
a nephew.
Terry’s father was a sergeant major in the Army, and was stationed at Fort Polk several times. Most of Terry’s school years were spent in Leesville. He played guitar in a rock n’ roll band in high school. He graduated from LHS in
1969. He served 10 years (1970-1980) in the Navy as a dental equipment repairman and dental technician. From 1982-2006 he was employed at DENTAC at Fort Polk.
For the last five years he worked for CUBIC. He did role-playing, teaching the
soldiers how to stay alive in Iraq and Afghanistan. He took this job very seriously, gave 110 percent and expected others to do the same. This was a job he loved and was exceptional at it.
Terry loved his Lord, his family and his church.
In previous years he had played bass guitar with a gospel group and enjoyed this immensely. Fishing, as well as photography, was a favorite pastime. In the past he enjoyed camping and hunting at Kisatchie.
A diagnosis of esophageal cancer
last April changed his life quite a bit, bringing him closer to his Lord. He endured many chemo treatments at MD Anderson. While doing so he would witness to people say: “I’m in a win-win situation. If I beat the cancer, I win, If the cancer wins, I
still win because I know where I’ll be going – to my heavenly home.” He would tell everybody, “If you have acid reflux, get it checked out before it’s too late.”
Our thanks go to Dr. Lubbos, Dr. Upadhyay, Stacey and Doris at Vernon Home
