Services for Mr. Oscar Dwayne Smith will be held
at 2 p.m. on Aug. 20 in the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville. Revs. Mark Christian, David Tipton, Greg Mortensen, John Burns and M.C. Green will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Hicks Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Hicks, under
the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service of Leesville.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. on Aug. 19 at the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville.
Mr. Smith, 74, was a veteran and owner of
Smith Laundry and Dry Cleaners. He also was a heavy equipment operator and for many years owned his own business, Smith Contracting. In the past several years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for different pipeline companies.
Once
you met Oscar, you never forgot him and his ability to make people laugh. He never met a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went. Even at family gatherings, he was the center of attention.
He was a longtime member of First United
Pentecostal Church of Leesville and enjoyed singing gospel songs with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Richard and Dovie Welch Smith, and a niece, Glenda Guidry.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years,
Marilyn Hagan Smith; one son, Michael Smith and wife Karen of Florien; two daughters, Twylla Smith of Leesville, and Katrina Smith of Leesville; two brothers, Elmer Smith and wife Inez of Leesville, and Arlin Smith and wife Sidney Sue of Haughton;
one sister, Lois Bradley of Alexandria; eight grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Nathan Jeane, Jacob Phillips, Colby Gordy, Heath Smith, Kristyn Smith, Kaitlyn Phillips and Amy Knippers; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends, Brian and Lequita
Franklin, and Billy and Gail Guffie.
Oscar is dearly loved by all of his nieces and nephews.
