Hicks blanks Starks to reach Class C semifinals

Hicks catcher Aiden Coffman connected on his fourth homer of the season on Friday, helping the Pirates to an 8-0 Class C quarterfinal win over Starks.

HICKS – The top-ranked Hicks Pirates have reservations in Sulphur.

Zach Haymon pitched six strong innings, while Aiden Coffman connected on his fourth homer of the season as the Pirates dominated the eighth-ranked Starks Panthers on Friday in the Class C quarterfinals, 8-0.

The Pirates will take on Downsville in the Class C quarterfinals on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Sulphur at McMurry Park.

Hicks scored single runs in each of the first three innings before scoring three times in the fourth to move out to a 6-0 advantage.

The Pirates added two more runs in the fifth inning, with pitching and defense doing the rest as Hicks advanced in the playoffs.

Haymon recorded nine strikeouts over six innings, surrendering only two hits along the way. He was also 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Coffman had a homer and two RBIs for the Pirates, while Hunter Thacker had a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI. Brad Pelt added a double and a run scored.

Kaydn Howard suffered the loss for Starks, while teammate Garrett Humphrey had two of the Panthers' four hits in the loss.
