Hornbeck advances to Class C semifinals

The Hornbeck Hornets are headed to the Class C semifinals after beating Summerfield on Friday, 13-0.

SUMMERFIELD – The sixth-ranked Hornbeck Hornets are heading to the dance.

The Hornets got a solid pitching performance from Michael Mason in a 13-0 Class C quarterfinal victory on Friday over the third-seeded Summerfield Rebels.

The Hornets will face Harrisonburg at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Class C semifinals at McMurry Park in Sulphur.

Hornbeck jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, which expanded to 6-0 after a run in the second and three in the third.

The Hornets continued to pound the ball and score runs, tacking on six more in the fourth and one more for good measure in the fifth to account for the final margin of victory.

Mason gave up just one hit and struck out nine over four innings, while also going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs. 

Cayden Fox also had two hits, two runs scored with three RBIs, with Caleb Britt scoring twice, going 2-for-4.

Jaren Mitcham had a double and two RBIs, with two runs scored, while JoJo Weeks and Brayden Addison each had a double. Weeks scored three times and Addison collected an RBI.
