Services for educator and banker Dr. Billie Sims
McRae will be held at, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, with the Rev. Daniel Lowe officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the
Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville.
Dr. McRae was born on January 28, 1922 in Merryville to John Carson & Ann Snowden Sims. She passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at her home in Leesville surrounded by her loving
family.
Dr. McRae graduated from Merryville High School then went on to earn her Bachelors Degree fromNorthwestern State University. She then furthered her education by receiving her Master of Arts degree from University of Texas Austin
and her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi.
She retired, after 30-plus years, from the Vernon Parish School System after serving as a Teacher, Counselor, Psychologist, and Supervisor of Vernon Parish
Special Education. She also taught graduate classes at the University of Southern Mississippi and Northwestern State University at the Fort Polk Campus.
Dr. McRae was a member of the Board of Directors of the Vernon Bank where she served
as past Chairman.
In her retirement Dr. McRae loved to travel the world and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Ann Sims; husband: Ralph D.
McRae; brother: Hampton “Buddy” C. Sims; four sisters: Emily Sims Hardin, Dickie Marie Sims Lorenc, Johnnie Sims Koppel and Rebecca Sims.
She is survived by a son: Ralph McRae, Jr. and his wife Anna of Leesville; a daughter: Virginia
Mcrae Conner and her husband Terrance of Leesville; seven grandchildren: Mark D. McRae and wife Candace of Leesville, Marcella McRae Post and her husband Lewis of Edmond, Okla., Millicent McRae Ballagh and her husband David of Leesville, Jennifer
Douglas of Jasper, Texas., Jessica Zuend of Seattle, Wash., Carson Douglas of Dallas, and Jamie Alexandris and her husband Perry of Dallas.; nine great-grandchildren: Carolina McRae, Jacqueline Cogburn, Sarah Post, Catherine Cogburn, Joshua Ballagh,
Emma Post, Dillon McRae, Victoria Alexandris, and Yianni Alexandris.
In Lieu of Flowers the family would request donations be made to the First United Methodist Church in Leesville.
