Benny Roy Backlund

Benny Roy Backlund was born on February 3, 1927,
in Lake Charles to Onne Roy and Mattie
Backlund. He passed away on February 24, 2016, in Lake Charles, at the age of 89.
He was a Merchant Mariner and a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Also, he worked at Mobil Oil Company and retired from the company after many years.
Mr. Benny was an ordained Baptist minister, having served at Calcasieu Baptist Church and various other churches in the area. He loved to fish, golf, and
travel. He was a supporter of the Baptist Children’s Home and disabled veterans. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 32 years, Genelle Isdale Backlund; son, John

Backlund; grandson, Ryan; great-granddaughter, Heather; and brother Gordon Backlund.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lula Virginia of Anacoco; sons David and Ginger Backlund of Ragley, Michael and Evelyn Backlund of
Sulphur, Frank and Joyce Backlund of Leesville,, Skipper and Kwela McDonald of Paragould, Ark. and Willie and Joyce McDonald of Anacoco; sister, Elsie “Sue” Brantley of DeQuincy; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 10
great-great-grandchildren
