BOSSIER CITY – Miss Martha Jane Brothers went to
be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 3,
2016. Graveside service celebrating the life of Martha Jane will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Leesville Cemetery in Leesville. Officiating will be Pastor Angela Bulhof.
Martha Jane was born in Shreveport on March 27, 1946 to Gertrude Word and John Parkerson
Brothers. She lived in Leesville with her parents until 1978. She then moved to Northwest State
School for the mentally
challenged, now known as “The ARC”.
Martha Jane loved her new home, her caregivers and the other residents. She received excellent care from her sister. At least once a week she would come to her sister’s home to be an aunt to her nieces
and nephew and to enjoy spaghetti suppers. She also enjoyed riding in the car and watching the world go by. She was an avid fan of the TV Guide Magazine and all things Wizard of Oz.
Martha Jane was preceded in death by her parents and is
survived by her sister, Kay Brothers Rice and husband Vincent Douglas Rice, Jr. of Shreveport.
She is also survived by her nieces Sarah Melinda Rice, Laurel Rice Brightwell and husband, William, Charlotte Evangeline Rice, Angela Rice
Festervan and husband, Dan; nephew, Vincent Douglas, Rice III; great-nieces, Sarah Rhiannon Kamm, Piper Margaret Brightwell, Parrish Meredith Brightwell; great-nephew, William Arthur Brightwell, V and Martha Jane’s adopted niece, Margaret Shehee
Cole, and Richard Harold who played Santa Claus for Martha Jane and her friends at the Northwest State School.
Honoring Martha Jane as pallbearers will be members of her family.
The family extends their utmost gratitude to the
staff and caregivers at Northwest State School “The
ARC”, Bossier City. They were her second family for 38 years and treated her with love, patience and
compassion. We will always regard them as her specials angels on this
earth.
